Ayurvedic Wellness Retreat at Sukhavati, Bali 1-5 November 2024

Oh my!! My fourth visit to Sukhavati was the best on yet. I feel light, clean, and energised.

Sukhavati’s completely personalised, immersive, Ayurvedic detox programs are transformative. The capable, supportive, warm, and spacious staff made it easy for me to experience a complete physical, mental, and emotional detox, even whilst teaching yoga classes to other guests.

Each evening, I found my personal schedule for the next day on my bed. A typical day at Sukhavati includes a morning walk, a healthy morning drink, yoga, breakfast, a treatment in the River Spa, meditation, lunch, afternoon yoga, evening mocktails, and dinner. Sometimes other activities appear on the schedule like, cooking class, a bike ride, a visit to Tanah Lot temple, Gala dinner, or a seminar on Ayurveda.

The treatments that I received varied from day to day depending on the Ayurvedic doctor’s plan to correct the balance of vata, pitta, and kapha dosha in my system. My treatments included Abhyanga (sychronised oil massage given by a team of two therapists), Shirodhara (continuous stream of warm oil on the forehead), Patra Pottali (synchronised massage using bundles of herbs soaked in heated oil), Svedana (steaming), Avagaham ((medicated copper bath), and Ubtan ( an aromatic, full body scrub). All of these treatments were given to me in the beautiful, open air, River Spa treatment rooms. I also received two facials/foot rubs in my bedroom during my visit and I completed a castor oil cleanse.

What was the yoga like? This time my classes were daily, one-hour, guided Ashtanga yoga sessions each morning in addition to a few late afternoon yin yoga/exploratory sessions. I had two of my regular students with me in class as well as Rohini the financial expert, Susan the dental therapist, gentle Beatrice from Spain, and Fulya the glamorous first-class flight attendant. I loved teaching a few new people from various parts of the world!

And the food…delightful as always. I could hug the chefs. I think I may have at one point!

Join me next year? I’ve already booked 3-7 September 2025. :)
